I would like to welcome you to The Meadows Residential Care Home, our beautiful family-run residential home set in the heart of Greenford, West London.
Leaving home can be a challenging time, and so to ensure the smoothest transition, The Meadows Residential Care Home boasts an authentic 'home from home' experience to help you settle.
By putting quality at the forefront of everything we do for our residents, relatives, advocates, and everyone with an interest in the Home, we aspire to be one of the most respected and successful care providers operating within the independent sector. Our focus is very much on people & people's needs, and we aim to ensure that each and every service user benefits from absolute respect and an enhanced and meaningful lifestyle.
We offer support and a community for people who are lonely and who want to have their every need met in a safe, warm environment, whether that is an ear to listen, a hot cup of tea or a fluffy, fresh towel.
Our dedication to providing the best care depends on attracting and retaining the very best individuals to our team. The staff are the backbone of any care home, and we search long and hard to find the most caring individuals to add to our staff. We are lucky to boast a long-standing permanent workforce who always believe in putting our residents first. We feel that we've created a family in both our carers and residents, and only believe in employing outstanding individuals who can meet our exceptionally high standards.
What we do
Our Activity Coordinator runs a varied and engaging programme each week, with options ranging from bowling and painting to bingo. We believe in the value of hands-on, interactive activities that offer both enjoyment and mental stimulation.
We also welcome input from residents and are always open to incorporating their favourite hobbies or trying something new. Our range includes puzzles, arts and crafts, and other creative sessions that help residents express themselves. Activities that involve hand movement are particularly encouraged, as they help maintain dexterity and joint flexibility, important for everyday tasks like fastening buttons and promoting independence.
Many of our sessions are designed to spark conversation, bring back memories and encourage social interaction. We understand that everyone is different; some enjoy group activities, while others prefer one-on-one time with our Activity Coordinator or care team.
Twice a week, we run Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) sessions, designed to support individuals living with mild to moderate dementia. These small group sessions follow a structured format focused on themed discussions, memory games, and other engaging tasks. CST is recognised in the UK by NICE as an effective approach for improving cognitive function and overall wellbeing in people with dementia. Each session typically starts with a relaxed catch-up and a discussion on current events, followed by theme-based activities. The group setting provides both mental stimulation and the benefit of social interaction.
We also offer walks to the local park which is within a stone throw from the home. For those less able to walk unaided, we provide wheelchairs and walkers as mobility aids. These outings also range from going to the local shops along the Greenford parade of shops to the Westway Retail Park shopping centre which is the premier shopping park on the A40 West London corridor and amongst the foremost shopping retail parks within the M25 Greater London region.
Alternatively, for those not interested in visiting shopping parks, there is an option for staff to escort residents along the Grand Union Canal which passes through several locks and bridges, and utilises the River Brent with boats moored or being navigated through towpaths.
The Provider brings in his own little 2 cavapoos dogs (brother & sister) Roy & Vera which are hypoallergenic and therefore safe for the residents to stroke for comfort and companionship. Regular interaction with a pet has been shown to ease feelings of isolation, lift mood and even encourage better communication and eating habits, especially to those living with Dementia or Alzheimer's. Dogs have a calming presence when sitting with someone who needs company, and petting them helps with their mobility, emotions and stress levels.
Of course, good communication is at the heart of what we do. Our team listens closely to residents, both through what they say and what they may express non-verbally. Understanding a resident's needs, especially for those with dementia, is key to supporting them with dignity and respect.
We also understand and respect the importance of faith to so many of our residents. The Roman Catholic priest often visits the Home at will to say mass as does the Church of England Vicar with an entourage of faithful volunteers to offer their services.
A freelance hairdresser visits the Home once a fortnight to attend to any resident who require her services. She has been with the home for over 6 years and can create any hairstyle that the resident desires, whilst in the comfort and safety of the care home.
A chiropodist visits the home regularly to attend to the resident's footcare, in the comfort and safety of the care home. He is a dedicated longstanding chiropodist who prevents, diagnoses and treats abnormal conditions of the feet, as well as helping to relieve pain and treat infections.
Our green-fingered residents can enjoy watching their very own plants grow in flower boxes and plants in bespoke flower beds against the wall. Our L-shape rear garden allows residents to relax in privacy, added which their comfort is enhanced by simply being shaded under a large gazebo, which is a haven for relaxing in a peaceful environment.
We have a wide collection of puzzles as well as creative arts and crafts sessions for residents to express themselves and let their imaginations take over.
We organize trips to the local shops, as well as to Kew Gardens, the local Animal Shelters with tea rooms attached and Garden Centre. We feel that it is very important to engage our residents in activities beyond the boundary of the care home. We encourage residents to go out for meals with their families and friends and work together with families to simulate their previous lifestyle. It is important for the residents to feel at home and see The Meadows as a home from home.
We have a selection of music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s being played at various times of the day to bring joy and happiness to our residents. Residents thrive on listening and singing along with familiar tunes, some getting on their feet to move and dance along. We also have a Monkey electronic piano in the lounge which is used daily by our residents who play both classical and modern music to the appreciation of all our residents.
Our Facebook and Instagram pages portrays evidence of the joy and happiness such an activity brings.
We have alternative options for group activities ranging from art and crafts, pin bowling, flower arranging, crosswords, light physical exercises, play dough, gardening, colouring, and bingo. For their who require personal quality time, we provide 1:1 structured discussion to alleviate distressing emotional and psychological trauma, emotional change, and lingering effect of past trauma.
Our catering staff consists of experienced, longstanding chefs who offer only the best in nutritional and delicious food, which reflects the individual tastes and dietary needs of our residents. We pride ourselves on adhering to dietary needs, whether they are religious, cultural or medical. All of the food is prepared on site and comprises fresh local produce, ensuring that all the meals provided are healthy, nutritional and most importantly, delicious tasting. The residents are given gorgeous fresh cakes every day with their afternoon tea, ranging from lemon drizzle to raspberry and coconut cake, and we find that the residents relish this 3.30 pm treat. Of course, we also like to offer healthy options such as fresh fruit if they so wish.
Our dining room is spacious and light and offers a chance for the residents to engage in conversation with each other. This is especially true when new residents join the home and offers a platform for other residents to make them feel welcome. We found that food and the social aspect surrounding it are so important in people's lives, and we try to create an atmosphere where friendships are made, as we all know that the best friendships are built over good home cooking.
Not only do our chefs focus on providing nutritious, balanced diets, but they also pay particular attention to specialist needs – whether health-related (such as diabetes) or religious.
We have been fortunate enough, due to the diligence of our catering team, to be awarded a 5***** rating by the Local Authority for Food and Hygiene.
